Why pharmacy: After graduating undergrad, I didn’t know if I wanted to pursue a career in medicine or pharmacy. I was lucky enough to secure two jobs to give me a better perspective of both sides, one as a scribe in the emergency department and one as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. My main tipping point was after a conversation with one of the pharmacists in the ED who had been in the same situation as me post-graduation. Seeing his satisfaction with his decision convinced me that pharmacy was the way to go.

Interests in pharmacy: Currently, I see myself pursuing a career as a clinical pharmacist and specializing in either pediatrics or emergency medicine. Research has also been an important part of my life, so I hope to find a way to continue with it in the future as well.

Why pharmacy: Whether it was marine biology or toxicology I knew I wanted to pursue a career in or related to the medical field. The first thing that attracted me to pharmacy was the versatility and opportunities to experience the applications of my skills in different environments. Through recent coursework I’ve grown to value the importance of patient interaction and counseling, as well as how widespread the reach of a pharmacists influence is.

Interests in pharmacy: A recent research report allowed me to investigate the pathogenesis and current pharmacotherapeutic treatments available to those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. Although my interests still lie in the roots of oncological and psychopharmacology, I hope to improve the efficacy of PD treatment.

Year: PP2

Where are you from: Ridgefield, NJ

Why pharmacy: I always knew that I was interested in pursuing a career in medicine, but I didn’t know which particular area to focus on. The area of pharmacy first sparked my interest when a oncology pharmacist helped direct my grandfather’s hospital treatment. Seeing her know exactly what kind of drugs and treatment options worked for my grandfather inspired me to want to become a person like that for somebody else.

Interests in pharmacy: As of the present, I am leaning towards learning more about clinical pharmacy and possibly a career in academia. Although I’m not entirely sure which area of pharmacy I would like to pursue yet, I am excited and ready to learn more throughout my time in pharmacy school and my co-op experiences.

Where are you from: Rockville, MD

Why pharmacy: I’ve had a lot of experiences with medicine growing up, and I have been fascinated with the human physiological interaction with drugs since then. I am also interested in the medical field and caring for patients, and after shadowing doctors of many fields, I find the independence for pharmacists most riveting.

Interests in pharmacy: I am greatly interested in both clinical and industrial pharmacy. I value both patient care and professional interactions and I hope to find a place in the future that embodies both aspect.

Where are you from: Hopewell Junction, NY

Why pharmacy: I chose to pursue a career in pharmacy after the experiences I gained while volunteering at an Emergency Room in a hospital, and completing a summer internship at a pharmaceutical company. I was fascinated with the different pathways one can pursue in pharmacy and liked that it was a good mix of business and healthcare. I also liked the idea of being the bridge between medical knowledge and patients.

Interests in pharmacy: I hope to continue to expand my knowledge on the drug development and regulatory process and learn more about the business and management side of operating a pharmacy.

Why pharmacy: I first encountered pharmacy under my mother’s influence, who was also pharmacist. After she had recommended this field, I had done more research and became fascinated with the pharmaceutical knowledge I can gain and the thought that I can get a job that would allow me to help others using such knowledge. This led me to choose pharmacy as my major.

Interests in pharmacy: I am interested in field that involve direct patient care in clinical setting. Yet I am still exploring the various path I can take to learn more about it and see which one would for me the most.
